keep up with what's going on at Slate's
ANOTHER successful SEASON WINDS DOWN
Chef/Owners Allan and Nancy Cotter and the entire staff would like to thank everyone who has supported Slate's this and each of our three seasons. The road has had its bumps along the way, but we feel confident that every year we are getting better and better. And there are plenty of improvements planned for the future.
In addition to our very successful dinner service and our equally popular Sunday Jazz Brunch, we are actively looking to expand our space and introduce the Cape to our jazz lounge. The permits are finally approved and soon construction will begin next door. The plan is to have a comfortable lounge space where our customers can relax and enjoy cocktails and live jazz. Of course we will keep you posted on the progress as everything comes together. We have been struggling to get the project off the ground for several months now, and are excited to finally be given the green light to start construction.
It's time for our summer vacation
It's that time of the year, Slaters! Chefs Allan and Nancy and the rest of the crew are taking some time off to recharge the batteries. We plan to come back stronger and better than ever, and as always, we thank all of you for your continued support and patronage.
Our official dates of closing are from Sunday 26 July until Monday 17 August. Our first evening back will be on Tuesday 18 August. We will be open for dinner only once we return, and will slowly reintroduce lunch and brunch as we get close to the fall/winter season. Until then, we wish you all the best and hope to see you soon!
Chef allan travels to the crescent city
Slate's will be closed on Sunday 12 April while Chef Allan visits New Orleans. Jazz Brunch returns the following Sunday, 19 April.

Wicked Dolphin VIP Tour and Rum Pairing Dinner
We would like to announce our next big event, the WICKED DOLPHIN VIP TOUR AND SLATE’S RUM DINNER PAIRING, which will be held on Monday, 3 November, as part of THE BEACHES OF FORT MYERS AND SANIBEL RESTAURANT WEEK. Slate’s has just recently started carrying the full range of Wicked Dolphin Rums and Rumshines, and we are excited to join with the good folks at Wicked Dolphin to offer a tour of the distillery followed by a 5-course rum pairing dinner prepared by our own Chef, Allan Cotter.
Details can be found on the official RESTAURANT WEEK website, under the “One of a Kind Culinary Experiences” menu. There you can purchase your tickets for the event. The link is provided below.
Seats are limited. Hope to see you then!
Hours of Happiness ends
Slate's is back and excited about all the ideas we're brewing up for our friends this coming Fall and Winter. We have wound up the Hours of Happiness and are now open for Lunch from 11 AM to 2 PM Tuesday through Friday and Dinner from 5 PM to 9 PM Tuesday through Saturday.
Slate's closing while Team Slate's takes a much-needed vacation!
From 27 July through 14 August, the restaurant will be closed while everyone involved with Slate's takes a holiday. As ever, we appreciate everyone who has supported us during our first seven months of business. Team Slate's has put in a huge amount of effort to make the restaurant a success, and the response from the public has been amazing. We are humbled and blessed by the support and encouragement we have received these past few months, and we plan on returning after our little break stronger and more eager than ever to conquer SW Florida! Mark and Allan have lots of ideas up their sleeves to keep the menu interesting and fresh for our Cajun fans. And there are plans behind the bar, as well, to bring in more cocktails direct from The Big Easy. So . . . stay tuned!
We will re-open on Friday, 15 August for dinner. And we can't wait to see you again!
Hours of Happiness have officially begun!
During the summer, Slate's will be open from 2 PM to 5 PM for what we like to call our "Hours of Happiness". It's our take on the whole "happy hour" concept. Drinks will be half price from when we open our doors for lunch at 11 AM until 5 PM. Additionally, we will have an appetizer menu available in the Bar Room which will include our popular favorites like Gumbo and Étouffée, plus some new items like Steamed Mussels in garlic and white wine, Cajun Shrimp, Crab & Corn Beignets, and Crawfish Spring Rolls.
Hopefully, we can entice all the "locals" who haven't yet tried us out to come and get a taste of what we have to offer!
Slate's cancels its popular Sunday Jazz Brunch
We want to thank everyone who has supported Slate's Sunday Jazz Brunch these past couple of months. The response has truly been overwhelming! But we have decided to discontinue it for the time being, and focus on dinner and lunch.
The entire Slate's team has been working hard non-stop since our soft opening in the middle of last December. In such a short time, our growth, and the public's response to Slate's has been phenomenal. We are so very appreciative of everyone, locals and tourists alike, who have helped catapult us to such great heights!
Unfortunately, we feel as though we are stretched a bit thin at present, and need to narrow our focus exclusively to lunch and dinner service. In that way, we can keep up the high standards that we have set for ourselves and give our supporters the quality food and service which they have come to expect from us.
Again, thanks for the awesome support, Sunday brunchers! We will keep you posted.
Fat Tuesday Dinner
Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday" is this coming Tuesday, March 4, 2014. It marks the official end to the Carnival season in New Orleans, after more than a month of parties, parades, and celebration. In solidarity with The Big Easy, Slate's will be having an evening of music and merriment. The house band will be playing from 530 PM to 830 PM during dinner. Chef Allan will be preparing some specials with a real New Orleans feel, like jambalaya. There will be beads and masks and good food, with some King Cake, to boot!
Hope to see you Tuesday night!
Valentine's Day is fast approaching. Chef Allan will be offering the full Slate's menu for the occasion, plus some specials. Fridays are the busiest night of the week at the restaurant, so we encourage you to reserve a table if you are planning on joining us that evening.
Sunday @ Slate's is all about Jazz Brunch!
Sunday Jazz Brunch is every Sunday now. It has been a great success since it debuted on January 19. The house band will be playing from 11 AM to 2 PM out on the patio. Reservations are definitely recommended for those outside tables near the band.
Take a peek at our Brunch Menu and see if anything tempts your appetite! Or come out for a Shrimp Bloody Mary and listen to the band.
Our first Jazz Brunch!
Our first Sunday Jazz Brunch will be on January 19. Slate's Dixieland New Orleans Swing Band will be performing on the patio from 11 AM to 3 PM. It should be lots of fun, and we are anxiously anticipating the launch of live music at Slate's. Come join us!
